Glass, 2023
Alongside my practice as a painter, I once made glass. These pieces are from my graduate show in 2023.
Growing Sorrows is an artwork that incorporates glass and elements from its surrounding space. Rather than being viewed in isolation, it engages with its environment. The glass pieces are crafted to fit into everyday objects and parts of the home: vases and basins full of water, held inside water-drop shaped shells. The work sets geometric elements against the unconventional shape of the glass, and the plants growing inside it deepen that contrast.
I’m not currently blowing glass, but I hope to return to it soon.
Intitulate “growing sorrow”, these glass pieces were made to fit into our everyday objects / parts of our home’s environment. They are meant to be more than just art pieces; vases, vasque full of water, a symbol of water held into those water-drop looking shell.
